Qigong, Leixlip

Mindful Movements Qigong is a modern take on Ancient Chinese self-healing moving and meditative practices. Literally translating as ‘life energy cultivation’, Mindful Movements Qigong combines these ancient roots with a contemporary focus on somatic awareness and developing connection between mind and body. Like any practice, its true benefit needs be experienced. Below, I briefly outline three benefits you might experience from this practice.

1.      Improve Well Being & Stress Management. We live in a world where stress, overwhelm, and anxiety is the norm. Well, let’s depart from what’s ‘normal’ and practice movements and meditations that release stress in our body. Many studies have shown that Qigong reduces stress, anxiety, and depression.

2.     Boost Immune System. The ancients believed that Qigong was a longevity practice, where perfect practice could support you to live 200 years! Perhaps not, but Qigong builds on the insights of Traditional Chinese Medicine to rid the body of pathogenic factors and develop its innate immune defences. Studies have shown that Qigong has a positive impact on the immune system.

3.     Develop and Deepen Mind Body Awareness. In my experience, the most powerful effect of Qigong practice is increasing mind-body awareness. This takes many forms, such as learning to recognise the initial impact of stress in the body and developing skills to release it, improving posture, balance, and overall stability in the body, and perhaps most importantly, learning to move in a way that brings you joy! As the Body Keeps the Score also highlights, this skill is key in managing and resolving trauma.
