Gregory Jackson

Holistic therapist; intersecting
sound, movement and mindfulness

About Me

I am a holistic therapist whose work intersects sound, movement, and mindfulness. At New Perspective Holistics, I work with each client on a bespoke basis, drawing on my background in philosophy, sound therapy, and mindfulness practices, to cater to the needs of each individual.

I completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy, and have since trained in Sound Therapy, Quantum Coherence Therapy, and as a teacher of Qigong (the traditional root of Taiji). I am currently studying at the Irish College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to receive my Licentiate in Traditional Chinese Medicine specialising in Acupuncture. I am a Buddhist practitioner working in the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.

Through mindful practices, we can find solidity and stability within ourselves and promote health and well-being. They support us to develop insight into and transform our suffering, and to empower us to take charge of our health and re-claim our mental and physical well-being. It is my goal to work with people to heal the parts in themselves that are calling for our attention and care, and develop new perspectives that can transform their health, lives and their suffering.

Holistic Therapy

Holistic Therapy is an approach to health and healing which aims to treat the whole person rather than separate parts.

From a holistic perspective, problematic symptoms cannot be understood in isolation, as they are intimately interconnected with the whole human being, and indeed their daily lives and lived experiences. This is in distinction to allopathic (or ‘conventional’) medicine, where a particular symptom is treated, usually on a physiological level and without reference to the whole. Allopathic medicine is a powerful form of medical intervention that successful relieves many types of suffering, especially those that are easily measured, observed, and thus understood from a western scientific framework. However, there are many types of illnesses and forms of suffering that remain hidden from this perspective, and it is with complaints such as these that patients often turn to holistic therapy to receive help, support, and find relief. There are a wide variety of different approaches, understandings, and modalities within the holistic therapy field. You can learn a little more about mine below.

My Approach

My approach to holistic therapy is rooted in the mindfulness practices of Plum Village, and grounded through my studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

In Plum Village, our practice is to come home to ourselves. This means, learning to slow down and take care of our bodies. This means learning to enjoy our breathing, our walking, to enjoy the simplicity of drinking our tea. This means listening to, embracing, and ultimately developing insight into, the parts of us within ourselves that didn’t have their needs met, that are still hurting from the pain of past experiences. Most importantly for me, Plum Village recognises the interdependance of pain and happiness. Our teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, reminded us that ‘No Mud, No Lotus’. A Lotus flower is an emblem of enlightenment, but without a bed of mud, the lotus cannot grow. This is what suffering can provides for us, a rich fertile soil. If we learn how to practice true mindfulness, that is, learning to come home to ourselves, we can support this mud to provide nourishment for our lotus flowers — our happiness and peace — to not only grow, but flourish.

TCM is an ancient and traditional healing practices that begun in China thousands of years ago, but with a contemporary vigour and re-imagination. Many studies have shown the benefits and promises of this approach to health. Primarily, my work with TCM involves the cultivation and utilisation of Qi, or life, energy. Qi is a philosophical postulate of TCM with a strong experiential/phenomenological basis. It is understood as the most subtle and fundamental form of energy on the physical plain, making it difficult—although not impossible—to observe from a Western Scientific Framework. Despite this, a lot of scientific evidence has emerged for the existence and utility of Qi energy on health and healing (‘The Nishino Breathing Method and Ki-energy (Life-energy): A Challenge to Traditional Scientific Thinking’, Ohnischi & Ohnischi, Oschman, Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis).

It is my understanding that renewing our perspectives can transform our lives in a manner that cultivates healing on a holistic level. Holistic therapy practices give us a means to develop this new perspective in both body and mind. By drawing on my background in philosophy in an academic context, utilising the tools afforded me through my training in holistic therapies, and strengthened by my own interest and studies in both Buddhist and Daoist psychology and cutting-edge academic studies, I work with clients to create a space where new, healing perspectives can be rooted deep within our energetic matrixes to open new possibilities for our health and in our lives overall.
